Red wines AOC Sancerre
The appellation AOC Sancerre is one of the great names of the Loire Valley. Located in the wine-growing region of the Center-Loire, the Sancerre vineyard is spread over more than 2000 hectares divided between several communes: Sancerre, Verdigny, Saint-Satur, Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre, Thauvenay, Vinon, Bué, Crézancy-en-Sancerre , Menetou-Ratel, Bannay, Sury-en-Vaux, Veaugues, Montigny, Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois. The history of the wines of Sancerre begins in Antiquity with the plantations of vines initiated by the Romans. But it was in the Middle Ages that the red wine of Sancerre took its rise, under the impulse of the Counts of Sancerre who knew how to put forward the work of the monks of the abbey of Saint-Satur.
The red wine Sancerre
In the 12th century, red wine dominated the vineyards of Sancerre. Produced from Pinot Noir, it is consumed on the royal tables and is easily exported thanks to navigation on the Loire. The popularity of this red Loire wine does not decline over the centuries, until the phylloxera destroyed the vineyard in the nineteenth century. Grape growers are slowly replenishing their vines and adding Pinot Noir to Sauvignon Blanc: a grape variety that is perfectly adapted to the climatic conditions of the Center-Loire region. This is how the White Sancerre develops. The red wine of Sancerre finds its letters of nobility. It obtains the Appellation of Origin Sancerre in the years 1950.
About Red AOC Sancerre
The red wine of the Designation of Origin Sancerre is monocépage.It is made exclusively from Pinot Black: a delicate grape variety known for racy and aromatic wines it produces. The Sancerre are dry red wines quite thin. Their aromas of cherry characteristics reveal a flexible and light structure. The vineyards of Sancerre

The Sauvignon Blanc enjoys great popularity in the world (New Zealand, South Africa, Austria ...). In France, it is found particularly in the wines of the Loire Valley, but also in Bordeaux (Sauternes). It comes into its own in the white wines of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. The AOC Sancerre Blanc is characterized by dry white wines, perfumed, both lively and powerful. The Sauvignon Blanc brings aromas of broom, blackcurrant, grapefruit and passion fruit, which joins the terroir to obtain a wine with a unique character. At the table, the Sancerre Blanc agrees with seafood to the Loire goat cheese. Its acidity can also balance the spicy dishes.
